There Was No Stopping the CSTS Signal in 2015!

With the auction closing out the 2015 Can’t Stop the Serenity season in November, it’s hard to believe another year is over. But what a celebration our tenth year has been!

59 events in 45 cities across 7 countries raised over $90,000 for Equality Now and 19 other charities (you can view the full list of donations and charities on the Global Donation Tally page). A Virtual Shindig covered the globe and Sean Faust donated 50% of sales from his song Signal. We had a huge auction with over 50 lots including many rare collectibles and items signed by a variety of Whedonverse favourites.

It may have been one of our most diverse years with Affiliate events that included fundraising raffles in booths at conventions, board game days, a concert, Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog* screenings and a painting class.… Read more…

Can’t Stop the Serenity 2015 Event Finale!

The final events of the 2015 Can’t Stop the Serenity season are upon us!

Halifax is hosting the final screening event of the year this Friday night 30th October at Hal-Con. And what an action packed evening it’s going to be! There will be trivia, a silent auction, a special Barrett’s Privateers rendition of the Hero of Canton sing along and an Evil Laugh competition. And not only is Serenity on the big screen there’s also Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog*.

A Mid Week Can’t Stop the Serenity Celebration Down Under!

We’re excited another founding city which hasn’t held an event for a few years is coming back to Can’t Stop the Serenity as part of our 10th year celebrations this week!

Adelaide return for their 5th CSTS event this Wednesday 14th October at the gorgeous heritage listed Capri Theatre. Doors open from 6pm so there’s time to purchase merchandise, raffle tickets and bid on a specially commissioned airbrush piece and a Supanova poster signed by a Serenity crew member in the silent auction before Serenity rises again on the big screen at 7pm. There’s so much shiny to win, so make sure to bring plenty of cashy monies.

Firefly and Whedonverse costumes are highly encouraged and may be rewarded with Blue Sun Travel Posters. And if you bring any of these ‘food’ items from Hutt Street Centre’s Donated Goods Wish List along to the screening you can swap them for a free raffle ticket.… Read more…

Huge Weekend of Can’t Stop the Serenity Events as the Big Damn Movie Turns 10!

It’s the biggest weekend of the season coming up with 10 Can’t Stop the Serenity shindigs celebrating the official release date of Serenity. There’s cities celebrating their 10th CSTS, cities holding their 2nd or more event of the year and lots of horrible sing alongs.

The Alamo City Browncoats didn’t want to miss Can’t Stop the Serenity’s 10th year so will be having a table to raise money for Equality Now at Monster-Con in San Antonio this Saturday only. It’s A Can’t Stop the Serenity West Coast Weekend!

There are three shiny screening shindigs happening in North America this weekend.

We are so happy to welcome another new city to the Can’t Stop the Serenity fold when Surrey BC hosts its first event at Kwantlen Polytechnic University this Friday night. And what an event it’s shaping up to be! Along with screening Serenity and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog*, there will be music interludes, a silent auction, door prizes, merchandise for sale and refreshments. Some of the shiny up for auction include Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse season one dvd set signed by Felicia Day and Patton Oswald, a “Jay and Silent Bob Go Canadian, Eh” poster signed by Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes and Jennifer Schwalbach, and a limited edition Serenity comic signed by none other than the Captain himself, Nathan Fillion.… Read more…

A Weekend Full of Can’t Stop the Serenity Fun and Games!

It’s going to be an epic September with 20 events this month, 5 of them happening this weekend!

It begins with 3 events on Saturday across 3 different countries.

Grand Prairie, AB kicks things off at noon at the Collins Recital Hall at GPRC with an afternoon packed full of geeky goodness. They’ll be screening Geek and Sundry’s fantastic web series about ghost hunters, Spooked as well as the first season of The Guild and of course Serenity.

There will also be cosplay contest and a scene contest where groups or individuals can play out versions of their favourite scene. And of course it concludes with Serenity on the big screen. Can’t Stop the Serenity Goes Around the World This Weekend!

It’s a truly international weekend with Can’t Stop the Serenity events across 3 continents.

It all starts this Friday night in Lawrence, KS at the historic Liberty Hall with a screening event. Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start, watch Serenity rise again on the big screen and sing along with everyone’s favourite villain Dr Horrible. If you’ve never experienced Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog* at a CSTS event, it is something truly special, a great story with most of the audience singing.

Tickets are just $10 and are available at the Liberty Hall box office in advance or at the door on the night. All proceeds go to Equality Now. For more event news visit the Facebook page.

Two Cities Celebrate Can’t Stop the Serenity Milestones!

This week we have two big Can’t Stop the Serenity multi-event celebrations on opposite sides of the world!

It all starts this Thursday in Minneapolis at the Riverview Theater with the first of 3 nights of Can’t Stop the Serenity. Minneapolis was part of the first CSTS in 2006 and has held events every year since, making this year extra special as they celebrate 10 years.

The Thursday night will feature a raffle and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog* in addition to Serenity on the big screen. But not to fret if you can’t make the Thursday night event as they will be screening Serenity again both on Friday and Saturday night at 11.30pm. Tickets are cash only at the door and cost $10 for Thursday’s event and only $3 for either the Friday or Saturday screenings.… Read more…

A Double 10 Year Can’t Stop the Serenity Celebration this Saturday!

Two founding Can’t Stop the Serenity cities celebrate ten years of events this weekend!

We start off on Saturday with the Pennsylvania Browncoats Rivers and Bridges Brigade proudly celebrating 10 years of Can’t Stop the Serenity events in Pittsburgh. The doors of the historic Hollywood Theater open at 5pm where the evening kicks off with games, raffle ticket and merch sales followed by an accoustic performance by Sean Faust, his third CSTS event this year! And of course Serenity on the big screen.

Entry for the event is free but since this is a charity event, a minimum $10 donation to Equality Now is strongly encouraged. And don’t forget to bring lots of cashy money for the shiny merch and raffle which includes some CSTS 10TH Anniversary items, Serenity soaps, Train Job posters by Caroline Moore and some gorgeous hand made items from Expressions by Jen.… Read more…

Can’t Stop the Serenity at Montreal Comiccon!

Can’t Stop the Serenity lands at Montreal Comiccon this Saturday night with a screening event!

You’ll find it at 513a – Panel Room 1. Doors open at 8pm for an 8.30pm screening.

You must have a Saturday pass for Comiccon to access the event and you can purchase CSTS tickets for just $10 here or get them for $12 at the door. With Jewel Staite a guest at the con, why not take advantage of your Saturday pass and get an autograph or photo.

In addition to Serenity on the big screen there’ll be prizes and items for sale and auction so make sure you bring lots of cashy money! All proceeds go to Equality Now and the Montreal Children’s Hospital.

A Wee Scottish Shindig

We’re so pleased Edinburgh is returning to Can’t Stop the Serenity for the first time since 2007!

They’re warming up with a traditional pub quiz on Friday 5th June before their screening event in August.
Entry to the pub quiz is a mere £2 and the grand prize is 2 tickets to the main shindig. There will also be some shiny merch for sale so don’t forget to bring some cash.

So brush up on your sci fi trivia, grab some mates and head down to the Southsider this Friday at 7.30pm for a night of fun and meet some fellow Browncoats.

Last But Hardly Least

This coming week sees the final events of the CSTS season but what a finish it is!

The Browncoats of Tampa, FL are having their first ever Can’t Stop The Serenity screening on Sunday Oct. 12. Entry is by donation so give generously but be sure to save some money for the raffle which has an astonishing number of truly shiny items. Everything from the Firefly Car air fresheners to the new Firefly Clue Game with Tshirts and actions figures in between. There will be tough trivia, Board Games, an RPG game scenario demo and of course, a screening of Serenity.

Salt Lake City is back with their Serenity Screening. Accompanying the BDM will be several fan films, including ‘Operation Night Watch’,& ‘The Verse’ by Julian Higgins.… Read more…

Moving into October

The last month of the 2014 Can’t Stop The Serenity season sees some exciting events happening. This weekend there are 3 very different types of Serenity Screenings.

First up is London, England. All the online tickets are sold out but at time of writing there are still a few left for sale at the door. The day starts at 4:00 and there will be showings of Dr. Horrible, Serenity & some Firefly inspired music videos. A silent auction has some great prizes as does a raffle. A costume competition will claim the middle of the event, so get those outfits finished! The Mad Hatter is a wonderful pub so you’ll probably want to get something to eat & drink while you are at it.

Hopping Across the Countries Coast to Coast

Another busy CSTS weekend with 6 events in 2 days.

Halifax is back with 2 back to back screenings of Serenity, as well as Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, a silent auction, merchandise for sale, trivia contest and door prizes. Come in costume and be immortalized by their very talented photographer! There will even be a Hero of Canton sing-along. Halifax is known for getting unusual auction items such as the Kaylee Special. (It runs on batteries);-). They will have a wide assortment of unique Tshirts and a comic signed by both Nathan and Adam. If you are in the area, it is not to be missed.

Sandy Utah is having its first CSTS event ever and it is already sold out! Serenity will be showing in an intimate 56 seat theater and will be accompanied by a raffle and an auction with shiny goods that have to be seen to be believed.… Read more…

Nine Events in only Four Days

Minneapolis is never content to do a screening like most other cities. Instead, for many years now, they have three screenings in a row. Everything starts on Thursday Aug 14 with Dr. Horrible at 7:45 and Serenity at 9:35. On both Friday and Saturday the events starts later – with Serenity being shown at 11:30 both nights. Please note that this is a cash only event so bring lots! Which screening will you attend?

Portland also feels that one screening is never enough, so they are holding 2 screenings in one day, Aug. 16th.
Both the afternoon and the evening events feature Dr. Horrible and Serenity as well as raffles with awesome prizes. Tickets can be bought online.

Browncoats all recognize the importance of Shindigs so Pittsburgh is starting their screening not at the theater but up the street at Fredo’s Market Deli from 3-5.… Read more…

Three Countries, Three Screenings

The weekend of July 4-6 sees three shiny screenings in Canada, the United States and England.
First up chronologically is Toronto. The Royal Cinema once again plays host to an afternoon of Serenity, door prizes, and an auction full of unique items. Tickets are only $12.00 in advance and $15.00 at the door. The screening will be followed by a shindig at a nearby pub but RSVPs are neccessary for the shindig.

Albuquerque has a very full day planned on Saturday. Besides shiny shopping, raffles, an auction, a shindig, Serenity, catered dinner available for purchase at the theatre, there is also comedy and music! Comedians Drew Wayne and Genevieve Mueller will open the event and Mikey Mason will play right before the dinner break. Bookending a Birthday

Continuing the celebration of Joss’s birthday, 3 U.S. cities are holding their events this weekend. Their names also all start with N but the similarities end there!

The Nashville/Murfreesboro event is a concert featuring The Secret Commonwealth and Kasey Lansdale. There will also be a raffle and auction and probably a few surprises. Tickets will be available at the door.

Norfolk, Virginia is putting on a big damn shindig, also on June 28th. It starts at the Naro Cinema with a showing of Serenity in Hi Def. Doesn’t matter how many times you have seen Serenity. Taking over the Weekend

The Rivers and Bridges Brigade of Pennsylvania just can’t let CSTS go! In one last big hurrah, they are having several events at the Pittsburgh Comin Con. They have a CSTS Pittsburgh table on the convention floor at the Monroeville Convention Center all three days, where you can play the “Badger’s Dodgy Dice” game from this year’s Serenity screening to win wicked cool prizes, purchase CSTS 2013 t-shirts, enter a raffle to win one of three great prize baskets and sign up to participate on a team at Sunday morning’s “Hammer vs. Horrible” games.

Immediately following the games on Sunday, they’ll be screening “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” at noon.
Admission to Sunday’s CSTS events is free of charge, but those who wish to attend must purchase admission to the Pittsburgh Comicon.… Read more…

Make a Weekend of It

Minneapolis is starting off the weekend on Thursday with a big event. Showing both Dr. Horrible and Serenity in one night! Starting at 8:30, this is perfect for anyone who has to work the next day. 😉
They continue the fun with both Friday and Saturday nights seeing the doors open at 11:00 p.m. with Serenity being shown at 11:30. There are raffles all three nights with great prizes to be had. The Riverview is a restored 1950’s Art Deco theater and a treat just in itself.

Whedonfest is underway for another year, from Aug. 9-11th. A joint CSTS event with Browncoats from the Nashville, TN/Scotsville, KY area, this is a weekend of all things Whedony. Perth Takes Flight Aug. 3rd

For the first time since 2005, Serenity is back in a cinema in Perth! The Perth Browncoats hold their CSTS screening on Aug. 3rd followed by a now sold out Shindig.

There are discounted popcorn combos, a door prize, raffle, lucky dip bags & prize hampers. Costumes are encouraged, and there is a prize for the best dressed. The online auctions will end right before the movie starts, so that is your last and best chance to get the items you’ve been eyeing.

The shindig will have more auction items, raffles and bingo.

Albuquerque “Independents Day” Screening

On Friday July 5th, the Albuquerque Browncoats have a CSTS event at the beautiful KiMo theater.

Doors open at 5:00 with great merchandise for sale including CSTS T-shirts, browncoat T-shirts and prints from local artists, cunning hats, notecards, lanyards, and origami firefly-class ship ornaments, to name just a few items. A live auction will follow the showing of Serenity, as will a shindig! Dr. Horrible will also be shown.

There is also a raffle and ‘Verse costumes are encouraged for the evening.

Toronto Holds 8th Annual CSTS Event and Charlotte sees Much Ado About Nothing

Saturday, June 29th, the doors open for the Toronto Can’t Stop the Serenity Event. It’s back at the Royal Cinema where the first screening was held in 2006.
After the screening of Serenity, there will be the always awesome auction, including such items as a bandana that was one of the original Universal prizes on the movie site, an authentic “Blue Sun” juice tin from the movie and some original craft items available nowhere else. Details are on the website.

All proceeds go to Equality Now.

A Toronto screening isn’t complete without a shindig!

We celebrate Joss’s birthday in a big way

When CSTS got started all the events were on or near Joss Whedon’s birthday, June 23. Some cities still hold their events that weekend.

First up on Friday is Lawrence, Kansas who are back with a screening. The ticket price has been lowered to only $8.00 but there is additional content with Felicia Day’s The Guild, Season 1 being shown.

Saturday June 22 has 4 screenings! Pittsburgh is back with their 8th screening. It’s in a new location, Off The Wall Theater in Carnegie, PA. This year they are asking for donations at the door rather than selling tickets in advance and are requesting $5.00 – $10.00. They have 2 silent auctions, games, raffles and of course, Serenity.
