Registration is Online for 2011!

Welcome to Can’t Stop the Serenity for 2011! This year marks our 6th Annual CSTS season and we are proud to welcome back our fellow Browncoats, veterans of the cause, mentors and new organizers alike. We’re grateful and excited that you’re interested in holding your own CSTS event to raise money for Equality Now. The information below will help you host an official CSTS Screening or Affiliate Event. Just take the time to read about each and decide which type of event you wish to run.

The CSTS Screenings constitute the bulk of events for each season. Joss Whedon’s “Serenity” is shown on the ‘big screen’ at these events in conjunction with auctions, raffles, contests, merchandise sales and other multimedia (pending licensing arrangements).

If you’re unable to organize a Screening Event (due to funds, location or proximity to other Browncoats), an Affiliate event may be the answer.… Read more…

And the 2011 CSTS Art Contest Winner is …

Congratulations to Melanie Fischer, winner of this year’s Can’t Stop The Serenity promotional art contest. Melanie’s winning design will be used around the world to publicize this year’s charity screenings of Serenity for Equality Now.

Please keep in mind that this is preliminary artwork only, and we’ll be working with Melanie to make a few tweaks to get it ready for its big debut. As soon as the final artwork is ready, we’ll make it available to organizers and supporters in a variety of formats and sizes.

Please join us in congratulating Melanie! You can follow her on Twitter at @browncoat2x2.

Art Contest Deadline Extended To February 14

The deadline to submit entries for the 2011 CSTS art contest has been extended to February 14. While we have been talking about the contest on Twitter, Facebook, our forums and elsewhere, we recently discovered that our Broadwave email news alert about the contest hadn’t gone out until this past Friday. So, we’re extending the deadline by two weeks to allow people who are just now finding out about the contest to participate.

Thanks to those who have already submitted entries, and we look forward to seeing all the new ones!… Read more…

2011 Promotional Art Contest

Can't Stop The Serenity logo The Browncoats have spoken!

The Can’t Stop The Serenity promotional art contest is back for 2011!

In its five-year history, Can’t Stop The Serenity has raised more than half a million dollars for Equality Now. We can do even more good works this year, but only if people show up! That’s where you come in. Since we’ve been doing this for half a decade now, the novelty factor has worn off, which means it’s more important than ever before to build excitement for CSTS. The logo, poster and t-shirts are critical tools for raising awareness about the event, building excitement, and getting people into theaters around the world.

Think you’ve got what it takes to design this year’s official artwork? Then read on to learn the rules for this year’s contest:

THE SHINY STUFF:

  • The winner’s artwork will be used as the basis for the T-shirt, poster and promo for CSTS 2011.

Play to our strengths

It’s a new year and people are asking me what my themes, goals, expectations and ideas are for 2011.  Well, I have a lot of them.  Primarily, I want people to recruit with a vengeance.  We need more Browncoats.  We can always do better and one of the ways to do that is to focus on some unsung strengths.

Example:  Affiliate Events.

Now, I’m a big fan of city screenings.  I make no apologies about that.  The big screenings raise the big funds.  They’re great fun and they have some brilliant venues, guests and activities.  I love ’em, but I also like the affiliate events and what they can bring to the table.

I really think this is the year of the affiliate event.  We have our big city gatherings and we should, but we have so many little towns and modest Browncoat groups that never get into the mix because they don’t have a theater to show a screening or can’t afford one or just don’t feel that they have the time and the gumption to throw a gathering together. … Read more…
