On Friday June 19th, the Browncoats of New York City had their CSTS event. That’s nothing new – this was the 9th time they’d done it. What was new, was their partner.
Equality Now, which is based in New York City, were co-organizers. Equality Now had decided to show their thanks to Can’t Stop The Serenity in as tangible a way as possible.
Upon entering the Chinese restaurant where it took place, it was our EN contact, Helen Stewart who greeted attendees, checked their name off and handed them a few small items.
The silent auction table had 2 bundles donated by Equality Now including the Joss Whedon designed Tshirt.
And it seemed as though every Equality Now staff member was there, having fun and learning what Browncoats are all about.… Read more…
Thirteen years ago, I had never heard of Firefly. I had been working at Equality Now for quite some time and, as usual, we were struggling for funding. I got a call one day, from Renee Balmert from something called “the California Browncoats.” She wanted our address in order to mail out a check to us representing proceeds from “ComicCon.” The check was for over $3000, a staggering amount of money from one donor, at least it was in our experience. Apparently Joss Whedon had told them we were his favorite charity and they decided to give all the money to us. We were thrilled and grateful and Renee and I started up a conversation as she explained to me what Firefly was and what the Browncoats were.… Read more…

We want as many Can’t Stop the Serenity shindigs across the world as possible to celebrate the 10th year of Can’t Stop the Serenity and the 10th anniversary of the big damn movie Serenity.
Every size event is very welcome.
Some of you may be up for running a Screening event but if you want to start a little smaller or turn an existing event into a Can’t Stop the Serenity fundraiser, why not organise an Affiliate event?
The fantastic thing about Affiliate events is they can be almost anything.
Here’s a few ideas to inspire you:
Can’t Stop the Serenity is celebrating 10 years in 2015, and we’ve got a great new logo to mark the occasion! This year’s artwork was designed by Adam Levermore, a long time Browncoat and designer of some of our early promotional art designs (back in 2007 and 2008).
You may have already noticed the new logo on our website and social media. It’s available now for you to download, so you can dress up your social media accounts to help spread the word about this year’s events.
2015 is off to a great start already and we hope you’ll come along for the ride and help us celebrate 10 fantastic years!
CSTS is immensely proud to announce that as of the end of the 2014 year, our 9th, we have raised One Million dollars U.S for Equality Now and the other charities our event cities have supported.
One Million Dollars.
It has come in as Australian, New Zealand, Canadian and American dollars. In Pounds and in Euros. Small amounts and large, from big cities and small groups of friends.
We probably can’t measure exactly how much good this money has done, but we can feel it. And we know what we are.
Those of us who have run events, those who have donated time, money or swag, and of course those of us who open up our hearts and our wallets when we show up at a screening or affiliate event.… Read more…

I confess that when I first heard of Can’t Stop the Serenity, I thought that these events would be something I personally might visit, but never help create. I imagined them to be similar to a big conventions. Well, not as big as DragonCon, but big enough to be put on by professional organizations and have a few celebrities. The cities were generally large metropolitan places with hundreds and hundreds of Browncoats able to raise thousands of dollars for Joss Whedon’s favorite charity, Equality Now.
Big league stuff.

Join Browncoats around the world celebrating 10 years of Can’t Stop The Serenity. Whether you have a big screening or gather a small group of friends together to raise money, every event is very welcome.
Not sure what goes on or how to get started? We have lots of excellent information here.
Many CSTS events are known as “Screening Events” where Joss Whedon’s “Serenity” is shown on the big screen in conjunction with auctions, raffles, contests, merchandise sales and other multimedia (pending licensing arrangements).
If you’re unable to organize a Screening Event (due to funds, location or proximity to other Browncoats), an Affiliate event may be the answer. This can be any kind of event, such as a BBQ, dance party, trivia night, or video night, etc.… Read more…
Can’t Stop the Serenity 2015 is very lucky to have a great crew make up the Global team for our 10th year.
Most if not all of these knowledgeable and hardworking people have been involved with CSTS at a local level, and many of them have been on the Global Team before.
They are bringing a deep enthusiasm & joy for our 10th year which I hope you will see over the course of the next months.
It takes a lot of people to have a successful Can’t Stop The Serenity year. Organizers and their crew do so much work that we can never say “thank you” adequately. If they didn’t step forward, there would be no CSTS events and no CSTS at all.
But they are not alone and this past year especially, people stepped forward to help others in ways that maybe haven’t been recognized as well as they should.
Until now.

The events are over for the year. Thanks to all the Organizers and crew who put so much time and effort into making their events the best they could be.
The Virtual Shindig run by William and Thomas last week was great fun. It was good to see people from around the world participating. The Utah Browncoats were good enough to donate items for an auction which added still more money to Equality Now.
Speaking of auctions, the annual CSTS eBay auction will be coming up in November. There are always some must have items but this year there are a couple of items which will astonish you! Keep an eye out for more details as they come available.

This coming week sees the final events of the CSTS season but what a finish it is!
The Browncoats of Tampa, FL are having their first ever Can’t Stop The Serenity screening on Sunday Oct. 12. Entry is by donation so give generously but be sure to save some money for the raffle which has an astonishing number of truly shiny items. Everything from the Firefly Car air fresheners to the new Firefly Clue Game with Tshirts and actions figures in between. There will be tough trivia, Board Games, an RPG game scenario demo and of course, a screening of Serenity.
Salt Lake City is back with their Serenity Screening. Accompanying the BDM will be several fan films, including ‘Operation Night Watch’,& ‘The Verse’ by Julian Higgins.… Read more…

The last month of the 2014 Can’t Stop The Serenity season sees some exciting events happening. This weekend there are 3 very different types of Serenity Screenings.
First up is London, England. All the online tickets are sold out but at time of writing there are still a few left for sale at the door. The day starts at 4:00 and there will be showings of Dr. Horrible, Serenity & some Firefly inspired music videos. A silent auction has some great prizes as does a raffle. A costume competition will claim the middle of the event, so get those outfits finished! The Mad Hatter is a wonderful pub so you’ll probably want to get something to eat & drink while you are at it.
