If you can’t do something smart, do something right

Second in the series of posts on the amazing people planning amazing things for this year’s CSTS season is the Susquehanna Valley Brigade from Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Amber and Tim are planning a screening of Serenity and an after party at a local restaurant, with live music, raffles, silent auctions and giveaways.

When asked why they had got involved in CSTS, Amber replied “Tim and I started our own business this year. Inspired by the movie that brought us together in the first place and it’s many great quotes, of course, “If you can’t do something smart, do something right”, we knew the right things was for our company to be able to give back to our community, and to be able to sponsor and donate to local charities.

In our search to find organisations we both wanted to donate to, we found Can’t Stop the Serenity and Equality Now. We immediately looked for a local event that we could contact about being a sponsor and to donate, however we found that there were no local events. After weeks of coming back to the CSTS page and talking about how we wished there was a local event and how we would love to see one here, it finally hit us, why don’t we host a local CSTS event!”

The Susquehanna Valley Brigade (SVB) of the Pennsylvania Browncoats are looking forward to this being their first big shindig with many more to come in the following years! Amber adds “We look forward to joining the ranks of our sister Pennsylvania brigades and fellow CSTS crews before us, both here in the US and across the world!”

In addition to Equality Now, the SVB are supporting two local charities with extremely positive messages.

The Dutchland Derby Rollers, are a flat track women’s roller derby team. They dedicate themselves to athleticism and community involvement while delivering a strong, positive female image to South Central Pennsylvania. Their league is driven by a simple mission statement, they believe all people are important and should be treated with equality and respect. Embodying the values of friendship, empowerment, dedication, and discipline, DDR demonstrates positive roles for women and act as contributing members of their local community, giving back through outreach, volunteerism and financial contribution. They support their community by donating a portion of their ticket sales for each bout to a different charity. Charities which include; Girl Scouts of America, Girls on the Run, YWCA and the Domestic Violence Services of Lancaster County, just to name a few. http://dutchlandrollers.com/

Also they are donating to Lancaster Girls on the Run. Girls on the Run of Lancaster is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. They teach life skills through dynamic interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness. http://gotrlancaster.org/

It sounds like the Lancaster event is going to be something smart and something right!
