It’s going to be an epic September with 20 events this month, 5 of them happening this weekend!
It begins with 3 events on Saturday across 3 different countries.
Grand Prairie, AB kicks things off at noon at the Collins Recital Hall at GPRC with an afternoon packed full of geeky goodness. They’ll be screening Geek and Sundry’s fantastic web series about ghost hunters, Spooked as well as the first season of The Guild and of course Serenity.
There will also be cosplay contest and a scene contest where groups or individuals can play out versions of their favourite scene. And of course it concludes with Serenity on the big screen. Don’t forget to bring some coin for the auction. Tickets can be purchased for $10 at Grande Prairie Live Theater. All proceeds go to Equality Now and Odyssey House. For more information please visit their facebook page and website.
Also starting at noon at Binary: Games, Food & Spirits is Milwaukee’s first Can’t Stop the Serenity event since 2006, and boy are they returning with a bang! You can play carnival games and the Firefly board game all afternoon or watch the Forbidden Desert episode of Tabletop, featuring Alan Tudyk, Felicia Day, & Jon Heder, and Done the Impossible: The Fans’ Tale of “Firefly” and “Serenity”. And after the games are done, you can chill out as they screen Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog* and Serenity.
And you’ll definitely want to bring all your cashy money for the live and two rounds of silent auctions. Some of the amazing shiny up for grabs include autographed photos from Nathan Fillion, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, Stephan Amell (Arrow), Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead), as well as collectible statues, a mega Firefly The Game set, original art prints directly from the artists and more. Dr. Horrible and Browncoat cosplay is highly encouraged, there may even be prizes. T-shirts, challenge coins, and pint glasses will be for sale.
Entry is free but a $15 donation is strongly encouraged, which is an absolute steal for 12 hours of entertainment, so please be generous! All proceeds go to Equality Now and Make-A-Wish of Wisconsin. For more information, including event schedule and photos of auction items click here.
Still on Saturday, we cross to Narre Warren on the other side of the world in the outer suburbs of Melbourne, where our Comms Director is having a private shindig with friends to play a myriad of Firefly games. There’ll also be Dr Horrible’s Sing Along Blog*, dumplings, problematic desserts and a shiny jar where every time a nominated word is said the speaker has to put coins in the donation jar. All proceeds go to Equality Now.
Then on Sunday we head back to the United States where Cleveland returns as a CSTS city after 8 long years out in the black. Serenity rises on the big screen of the Capitol Theatre at 1.30pm but you’ll want to get there earlier to buy your raffle tickets and merchandise. Some of the shiny prizes include Serenity Leaves on the Wind signed by Georges Jeanty, passes to Cleveland Cinemas, a cunning hat, a Serenity Nebulae Print by Papyrusaurus, $50 Gift Certificates for Corner Alley and so much more.
Tickets are just $10 and available online at Cleveland Cinemas. This is only a 90 seat theatre, get your tickets now so you don’t miss out. All proceeds go to Equality Now and the Renee Jones Empowerment Center. To keep up to date on all event announcements see their Facebook page.
We finish the weekend in Arcata, CA with their screening shindig at the Arcata Theatre Lounge. Doors open at 5.30pm for you to enjoy some mudders milk while you mingle with fellow Browncoats and test your knowledge with some trivia before Serenity starts at 6.30pm. Be sure to find your best costume for the cosplay lineup! They’re aiming to get 1% of the town’s population to attend again, which they achieved last year, we believe the magic number they need is 165.
There’s a swag of shiny prizes being given away including these amazing Inevitable Betrayal Dinosaurs, a Firefly Board Game pack including all the expansions, Firefly – A Celebration and Joss Whedon biography, a Serenity plush, Alliance Money Packs, Tshirts and more. Tickets are a mere $6 at the door with all proceeds from the event going to Equality Now. Keep an eye on their website for all event info and updates.
